Orsolina28 Art Foundation is thrilled to welcome Gauthier Dance JUNIORS//Theaterhaus Stuttgart on its Open Air Stage.

The evening begins with “Of Gold, Blue and Black”, the company’s latest work by choreographer Adriano Bolognino, created in residency in Orsolina28. The work unfolds upon a threshold. It’s a suspended space between transformation and loss, a liminal state where nothing ever truly settles and everything remains in a constant and delicate state of becoming. Yet, liminality itself is not the centre of this work: what compels Bolognino is the emotional tension this condition exacts upon the body when it cannot fully surrender to either joy or sorrow. The choreographer brings to the stage a body in continuous transition, never still, never safe, yet intensely, precariously alive. Gestures return again and again like fragments of a prayer, as if repetition alone could bind what is constantly slipping away.

This shifting emotional landscape echoes Vincent van Gogh’s “Wheatfield with Crows” (1890), which permeates the work as a chromatic atmosphere. The painting becomes a field of forces rather than a reference: the gold of the wheat burns with the fleeting brilliance of joy; the deep blue opens onto a still contemplation where time seems to hesitate; the black of the crows symbolizes both omens and guides.

With “Of Gold, Blue and Black”, Bolognino seeks to explore a duality that refuses resolution, the flesh that grows and the flesh that withers, fierce joy and fertile grief, the inheritance passed from one body to another, parenthood emerging at the very moment we lose the child we once were.

This sharing continues with a selection of the JUNIORS' repertory works. In “B/olero”, Ohad Naharin reinterprets Maurice Ravel’s iconic piece, combining it with a synthesizer arrangement by Japanese composer Isao Tomita.

Mauro de Candia’s The Dying Swan” takes a radically new look at this iconic piece, where the dying swan is not personified by a delicate ballerina in a tutu, but by a male dancer.

With her pas de deux “Lascilo Perdere”, Aszure Barton might have just set a record for the longest and most audacious tongue-locked moment in a dance piece: for the entire duration of Antonio Vivaldi’s Dominus – Cum Dederit, Barton entwines a couple in a physically near-impossible feat.

Last but not least, Marco Goecke brings “FURIA” represents an attempt to capture time. As his musical template, Goecke has chosen Baroque La Folia variations by Marin Marais and Arcangelo Corelli, two compositions from an era that was artistically obsessed with the fleeting nature of time.
